Traditional Japanese Miso Soup

15 minutes • Easy

Ingredients

  • 4 cups dashi (Japanese soup stock)
  • 3 tbsp white miso paste
  • 4 oz silken tofu, diced
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • 1/2 sheet nori, cut into thin strips

Steps

  1. 1. Bring dashi to a gentle simmer in a pot. Do not boil.
  2. 2. In a small bowl, dissolve miso paste in a ladleful of hot dashi, then add the mixture back to the pot. Stir well.
  3. 3. Add diced tofu and let it warm through for 2-3 minutes. Do not boil after adding miso.
  4. 4. Ladle into bowls, garnish with sliced green onions and nori strips. Serve immediately.
