There’s a quiet calm that washes over me with every sip of warm miso soup. It’s simple, nourishing, and always makes me feel centered.
Traditional Miso Soup
Ingredients
- 4 cups dashi (Japanese soup stock)
- 3 tablespoons white miso paste
- 4 oz silken tofu, diced
- 2 green onions, thinly sliced
- 1 sheet nori, cut into thin strips (optional)
Steps
- Heat dashi in a saucepan over medium heat until just simmering. Do not boil.
- In a small bowl, scoop out a ladleful of dashi and whisk it with the miso paste until smooth. Pour the miso mixture back into the saucepan and stir gently.
- Add diced tofu to the soup and simmer for 2-3 minutes, ensuring the soup does not boil (boiling can diminish miso flavor and nutrients).
- Ladle into bowls, garnish with sliced green onions and nori strips if desired. Serve immediately.
