After a long day, a bowl of homemade lentil soup is my ultimate comfort food. It’s warm, nutritious, and always makes me feel loved and cared for.

Simple Yellow Dal

40 minutes • Easy

Ingredients

  • 1 cup yellow lentils (moong dal)
  • 4 cups water
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 inch ginger, grated
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 tbsp ghee or oil

Steps

  1. Rinse lentils thoroughly. Combine lentils, water, and turmeric in a pot. Bring to a boil, then simmer until soft (about 20-25 mins).
  2. In a separate small pan, heat ghee/oil. Add chopped onion and grated ginger, sauté until fragrant.
  3. Pour the sautéed mixture into the cooked dal. Stir well and simmer for another 5-10 minutes.
  4. Season with salt to taste and serve hot.
