Soothing Dal Makhani

2 hours (plus soaking) • Medium

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup whole black lentils (urad dal)
  • 1/4 cup kidney beans (rajma)
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • Ginger-garlic paste, garam masala, cumin powder

Steps

  1. Soak lentils and kidney beans overnight. Drain and rinse.
  2. Pressure cook lentils and beans until very tender (or simmer for 1.5 hours).
  3. In a separate pan, sauté onion until golden. Add ginger-garlic paste, spices, and tomatoes. Cook until oil separates.
  4. Add cooked lentils and beans to the pan. Stir in cream and butter. Simmer for 15-20 minutes. Serve hot with naan or rice.
