There’s something so satisfying about a perfectly grilled bratwurst with sauerkraut on a cool evening. It just makes me feel content and at home.
Bratwurst with Sauerkraut & Onions
Ingredients
- 4 raw bratwurst sausages
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 1 (16 oz) can sauerkraut, drained and rinsed
- 1/2 cup beer or chicken broth
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Crusty rolls for serving (optional)
Steps
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onion and cook until softened and lightly caramelized, about 8-10 minutes.
- Add sauerkraut and beer (or broth) to the skillet. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat and cook, covered, for 10 minutes.
- While sauerkraut simmers, cook bratwurst either by grilling, pan-frying, or boiling, until cooked through and nicely browned (about 10-15 minutes).
- Season sauerkraut with salt and pepper. Serve bratwurst over the warm sauerkraut, optionally in a crusty roll.
