Authentic Margherita Pizza
Ingredients
- 1 lb pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
- 1/2 cup San Marzano tomato sauce
- 4 oz fresh mozzarella, torn or sliced
- Fresh basil leaves
- 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- Pinch of salt
Steps
- Preheat oven with a pizza stone or steel to its highest temperature (500-550°F / 260-290°C) for at least 30 minutes.
- Stretch or roll pizza dough into a 10-12 inch circle. Transfer to a lightly floured pizza peel or parchment paper.
- Spread tomato sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a border. Distribute mozzarella over the sauce.
- Carefully slide pizza onto the hot stone/steel. Bake for 8-12 minutes, or until crust is golden and cheese is bubbly. Remove from oven.
- Top with fresh basil leaves, a drizzle of olive oil, and a pinch of salt. Slice and serve immediately.
