Creamy Stovetop Mac and Cheese
Ingredients
- 1 lb elbow macaroni
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 3 cups milk
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Steps
- Cook macaroni according to package directions; drain and set aside.
- In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute.
- Gradually whisk in milk until smooth. Bring to a simmer, stirring constantly, until thickened.
- Remove from heat. Stir in cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses until melted and smooth. Add cooked macaroni, salt, and pepper. Serve immediately.
