Quick Stovetop Mac and Cheese

Ingredients

  • 1 cup elbow macaroni
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Steps

  1. Cook macaroni according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
  2. In the same pot, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute to create a roux.
  3. Gradually whisk in milk until smooth. Bring to a gentle simmer, stirring, until thickened.
  4. Remove from heat. Stir in shredded cheese until melted and smooth. Add cooked macaroni and season with salt and pepper. Serve immediately.
