Nothing brings me more simple joy than a classic strawberry shortcake. It’s light, fresh, and reminds me of summer picnics and happy family gatherings.

Easy Strawberry Shortcake

Ingredients

  • 2 cups self-rising flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 lb fresh strawberries, sliced
  • Whipped cream for serving

Steps

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a bowl, combine flour and sugar. Cut in cold butter until crumbly. Stir in milk until just combined.
  3. Drop spoonfuls of dough onto a baking sheet. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  4. While shortcakes cool, macerate strawberries with a spoonful of sugar. Split shortcakes, fill with strawberries and whipped cream.
