When I need a comforting treat, especially on a rainy day, a warm apple crumble always hits the spot. The sweet, spiced apples and crunchy topping are pure bliss.

Classic Apple Crumble

Ingredients

  • 6 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/2 cup sugar (for apples)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (for topping)
  • 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed

Steps

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Toss sliced apples with sugar and cinnamon. Spread in an 8x8 inch baking dish.
  2. In a bowl, combine flour, oats, and brown sugar. Cut in cold butter with your fingers or a pastry blender until crumbly.
  3. Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the apples.
  4. Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until topping is golden brown and apples are tender. Serve warm, perhaps with custard or ice cream.
