Nothing says ‘celebration’ or ‘pure joy’ to me like a big pot of homemade chicken biryani. The aroma fills the whole house and always brings a smile to my face, especially when shared with loved ones.

Simple Chicken Biryani

Ingredients

  • 2 cups basmati rice
  • 1.5 lbs chicken pieces
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 2 tbsp biryani masala
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

Steps

  1. Soak rice for 30 minutes, then cook until 70% done and drain.
  2. Marinate chicken with yogurt, biryani masala, and salt for at least 30 minutes.
  3. In a large pot, sauté sliced onions until golden. Add marinated chicken and cook for 10-15 minutes.
  4. Layer the partially cooked rice over the chicken. Garnish with fresh cilantro.
  5. Cover tightly and cook on low heat for 20-25 minutes until chicken is tender and rice is fully cooked.
