Classic Shepherd's Pie

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground lamb or beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 carrot, diced
  • 1 celery stalk, diced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1/2 cup frozen peas
  • 4 large potatoes, mashed
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • Salt and pepper

Steps

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). In a large skillet, brown ground meat. Drain fat. Add onion, carrot, and celery; cook until softened.
  2. Stir in beef broth and peas; simmer for 5-7 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Transfer to an oven-safe dish.
  3. Top with mashed potatoes (mixed with butter and milk), spreading evenly. Create ridges with a fork.
  4. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbly.
