Simple Arepas

Ingredients

  • 2 cups pre-cooked white cornmeal (masarepa)
  • 2 1/2 cups warm water
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • Your favorite fillings (cheese, avocado, ham)

Steps

  1. Combine masarepa and salt in a bowl. Gradually add warm water, mixing until a dough forms.
  2. Knead for 2-3 minutes until smooth. Let rest for 5 minutes.
  3. Form dough into small, thick patties. Lightly brush with oil.
  4. Cook on a preheated griddle or pan for 7-10 minutes per side until golden and cooked through. Serve warm with fillings.
