Quick Stovetop Mac and Cheese
Ingredients
- 1 cup elbow macaroni
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
Steps
- Cook macaroni according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
- In the same pot, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute to create a roux.
- Gradually whisk in milk until smooth. Bring to a gentle simmer, stirring, until thickened.
- Remove from heat. Stir in shredded cheese until melted and smooth. Add cooked macaroni and season with salt and pepper. Serve immediately.
