Nothing brings me more simple joy than a classic strawberry shortcake. It’s light, fresh, and reminds me of summer picnics and happy family gatherings.
Easy Strawberry Shortcake
Ingredients
- 2 cups self-rising flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1 lb fresh strawberries, sliced
- Whipped cream for serving
Steps
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a bowl, combine flour and sugar. Cut in cold butter until crumbly. Stir in milk until just combined.
- Drop spoonfuls of dough onto a baking sheet. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
- While shortcakes cool, macerate strawberries with a spoonful of sugar. Split shortcakes, fill with strawberries and whipped cream.
