Making and eating homemade pelmeni always fills me with a cheerful spirit! It’s a wonderful tradition to share with family, and each little dumpling brings so much joy.

Homemade Russian Pelmeni

2 hours (includes prep) • Hard

Ingredients

  • For Dough: 3 cups all-purpose flour, 1 egg, 1/2 cup water, 1/2 tsp salt
  • For Filling: 1 lb ground beef and pork mix, 1 small onion (finely grated), salt and pepper to taste

Steps

  1. To make dough: Combine flour, egg, water, and salt. Knead until smooth and elastic (about 10-15 min). Cover and let rest for 30 min.
  2. To make filling: Mix ground meat, grated onion, salt, and pepper.
  3. Roll out dough thinly on a floured surface. Cut into small circles (about 2-inch diameter). Place a small amount of filling in the center of each circle.
  4. Fold dough in half to create a crescent, pinch edges to seal. Bring the two ends of the crescent together and pinch to form a ring.
  5. Boil pelmeni in salted water for 5-7 minutes, or until they float and are cooked through. Serve with sour cream or butter.
