After a long, tough week at work, there’s nothing that calms my nerves quite like a big bowl of homemade mac and cheese. It’s my ultimate comfort food, a warm hug in a bowl.
Classic Mac and Cheese
Ingredients
- 1 lb elbow macaroni
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 3 cups milk
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
Steps
- Cook macaroni according to package directions; drain well.
- In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute.
- Gradually whisk in milk. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly, then reduce heat and simmer for 2 minutes.
- Remove from heat. Stir in cheddar cheese, salt, and pepper until cheese is melted and sauce is smooth.
- Add cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce and stir to combine. Serve immediately.
