Ingredients
- Self-rising flour
- Cold butter
- Caster sugar
- Milk
- Egg (for wash)
Steps
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). In a bowl, rub cold butter into self-rising flour until it resembles breadcrumbs, then stir in sugar.
- Add milk gradually, mixing until a soft dough forms. Turn onto a floured surface and gently pat to about 1-inch thick.
- Cut out rounds with a cookie cutter. Place on a baking sheet, brush tops with beaten egg.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes until risen and golden. Serve warm with jam and clotted cream.
