ReflectiveEnglandApple Crumble

On quiet, reflective afternoons, an apple crumble makes me feel incredibly grounded. The warmth and spices bring a sense of peace, perfect for quiet contemplation.

Classic Apple Crumble

1 hour • Easy

Ingredients

  • 4 large apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for filling)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (for topping)
  • 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed

Steps

  1. Preheat oven to 375F (190C). For filling: Toss sliced apples with granulated sugar and cinnamon. Place in an oven-safe dish.
  2. For topping: In a bowl, combine flour and brown sugar. Cut in cold butter with your fingers or a pastry blender until crumbly.
  3. Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the apple mixture.
  4. Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until apples are tender and topping is golden brown and bubbly. Serve warm, perhaps with custard or ice cream.
