Classic Cheese Arepas

Ingredients

  • 2 cups pre-cooked white cornmeal (masarepa)
  • 2.5 cups warm water
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Steps

  1. Mix cornmeal, water, and salt; knead until a smooth dough forms.
  2. Let rest 5 minutes, then divide into 8 balls.
  3. Flatten balls into discs, stuff with cheese, reshape.
  4. Cook on a lightly oiled griddle over medium heat 5-7 min per side.
  5. Serve warm with butter or a filling of choice.
