Hearty Egyptian Koshary
Ingredients
- 1 cup rice
- 1 cup lentils
- 1 cup macaroni
- 1 can chickpeas
- Fried crispy onions
- Tomato sauce (dakka and shatta)
Steps
- Cook rice, lentils, and macaroni separately according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
- Prepare tomato sauce: Sauté garlic, add canned tomatoes, vinegar, and spices (cumin, chili). Simmer.
- To assemble: Layer rice, then lentils, then macaroni in a bowl. Top with chickpeas.
- Ladle generous amounts of tomato sauce over the layers. Garnish with crispy fried onions.
- Serve with optional spicy chili sauce (shatta) and garlic vinegar (dakka) on the side.
