After a long week, nothing beats a classic plate of fish and chips from my local chippy. It’s the perfect way to unwind and feel completely relaxed. Pure bliss!

Classic Crispy Fish and Chips

Ingredients

  • 2 large cod fillets
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 cup cold sparkling water
  • 4 large potatoes
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Steps

  1. Cut potatoes into thick chips, soak in cold water for 15 mins, then pat dry.
  2. Heat oil in a deep fryer to 350°F (175°C). Fry chips until golden and crispy; drain.
  3. For batter, whisk flour, baking powder, and sparkling water. Dip cod fillets in batter.
  4. Fry fish in hot oil for 5-7 minutes until golden brown and cooked through; drain.
  5. Serve hot with salt, vinegar, and crispy chips.
