Whenever there’s a celebration, or I just want to bring a festive vibe to my day, making churros with warm chocolate sauce is my go-to. It’s so much fun and absolutely delicious!

Homemade Churros with Chocolate Dip

45 minutes • Medium

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • Oil for frying
  • Cinnamon sugar for coating
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream

Steps

  1. In a saucepan, combine water, butter, sugar, and salt. Bring to a boil. Remove from heat, add flour all at once, stir vigorously until a ball of dough forms. Let cool slightly.
  2. Beat in eggs one at a time until well combined. Transfer dough to a piping bag fitted with a star nozzle.
  3. Heat oil in a deep pot to 350°F (175°C). Pipe 4-6 inch strips of dough into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown, turning occasionally. Drain on paper towels and immediately toss in cinnamon sugar.
  4. For chocolate dip: Heat chocolate chips and heavy cream in a microwave-safe bowl or small saucepan until melted and smooth. Serve churros warm with the chocolate dip.
