When I’m feeling a bit reflective, a slow-cooked lasagna always hits the spot. It reminds me of family gatherings and simpler times, a perfect dish for quiet contemplation.

Classic Beef Lasagna

2 hours 30 minutes • Medium

Ingredients

  • 1 lb lasagna noodles
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 24 oz marinara sauce
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning

Steps

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Cook lasagna noodles according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
  2. Brown ground beef in a skillet, drain fat. Stir in marinara sauce and Italian seasoning. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  3. In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese, egg, and Parmesan cheese.
  4. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in a 9x13 inch baking dish. Layer with noodles, then ricotta mixture, then mozzarella cheese, then meat sauce. Repeat layers.
  5. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove foil and bake for another 15 minutes, or until bubbly and cheese is golden. Let stand 10 minutes before serving.
