ComfortingBrazilFeijoada

When I miss home, a big pot of feijoada always brings me comfort. It’s a hearty, soulful dish that tastes like family and tradition.

Quick Feijoada (Black Bean Stew)

1 hour 30 minutes • Medium

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 lb smoked sausage (linguica or chorizo), sliced
  • 2 cans (15 oz each) black beans, undrained
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • Cooked rice and collard greens for serving

Steps

  1. Heat oil in a large pot. Sauté onion and garlic until fragrant.
  2. Add sliced sausage and cook until browned. Drain any excess fat.
  3. Stir in black beans (with their liquid) and chicken broth. Bring to a simmer.
  4. Reduce heat and cook, uncovered, for 45-60 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly. Serve hot with rice and collard greens.
